It has been almost two weeks since I got back from an amazing vacation in Ecuador. I went down with some friends to meet the children we sponsor down there. Man, what an experience that was. Not only did it reinforce the idea that we simply live with too much, but also reinforced one of my whys. The ability to help and visit Anthony and hopefully additional children in need as well, is one of my big whys. But this post is not about Ecuador, it’s about how hard it was to get back into the groove once I got home. I fully expected a post-vacation lull, but it was so much worse than I thought it would be.
I came home on a Friday afternoon and spent that evening with family, since we had visiting relatives. The next day I planned to be back at home all day and take care of stuff around the house and really work on finishing up the boxes I had yet to unpack from my move almost 2 years ago. I had made major headway into getting rid of them all since January, but there were still a couple I was putting off going through and that was my goal when I got home. Instead I spent most of Saturday napping or watching TV. Only occasionally moving things from one pile to the other. Not really making any progress. I had absolutely zero minimalism mojo that day! Did I really need to get rid of everything? Some things I love. I realize now looking back on that day, it wasn’t truly me doubting this process and this journey I am on, but a combination of laziness and travel weariness. I had not slept well the whole trip (no A/C can really affect your sleep!) and I just didn’t want to do anything but sit around and be lazy.
I was convinced that coming back from my trip and seeing the way most people live with a tiny fraction of what we have, but how they are happy and live their lives to the fullest, that I would be ready to conquer the minimalism world! That I would want to reduce my lifestyle to enable me to save more money and get fitter to travel more and help more children in need. I knew meeting these children would melt my heart and figured that would drive me once I got home. Oh, was I wrong! I was in a funk for sure!!
There were a few good things that happened those first two days back, and really helped me get back into my clean eating groove. First, I came home to a Farm Fresh to You box on my doorstep on Friday. Second, I got a Hello Fresh Box delivered on Saturday. And third, I got my Arbonne Fit Kit on Sunday.* Without leaving the house, I was able to have a couple meals, lots of fruits and veggies, and all the items I needs to make shakes and snacks available in my house for the week. Which ended up being a life saver, because the motivation to grocery shop did not strike till Thursday that week! Almost a week after I got home. Without these I would not have been able to get back onto my clean eating path so quickly.
The other thing that really helped was getting out of the house and meeting up with family. We of course talked about this new journey through minimalism I am going on and my blog and the new healthy way I am eating. Of course, while talking about it with them the minimalism mojo started to come back. I was excited to share my journey with them, especially since many of them I had not seen since my new journey began. I also hopped online and chatted with my friend who I am doing this journey with. He was a big help to get me moving back in the right direction. I know I can always turn to my friends, family, and the amazing community that is being created on The Minimal Woman Facebook Page for support in getting moving again. By mid-week I was moving back towards my groove and moving forward on my journey. By this weekend I was back in full blow minimalism and clean eating mode! I finally finished those boxes and can now say that I ee atam done with all the boxes from my move!
These last two weeks not only truly reminded me how important it is to always know your whys, but also how important it is to have a community to support you and hold you accountable (accountability post coming soon!). It also reminded me that we must remember that there are always going to be events, trips, illness, or injuries that might put us in a funk and get us out of your groove. So, it is important to know it is just a mood and it will pass. This Journey of Personal and Lifestyle redesign you are on is too important to let slip by because of a funk.
